September 29 - The USA's Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore has handled a record amount of containers and general cargo during the fiscal year 2017, which ran from July 1, 2016 through to June 30, 2017.

The port handled 907,957 teu and 10,347,794 tons (9,387,360.8 tonnes) of general cargo, which includes cars, containers, farm and construction machinery, forest products and breakbulk.

According to the port, this represents a 9.8 percent increase in the amount of cargo handled from the previous year.

In June, the port handled 87,565 teu, the most of any month in its history. June also saw 897,871 tons (814,534.9 tonnes) of general cargo pass through the port.
