While Argentina grapples with high inflation and currency volatility, which complicate logistics and financing, there is optimism in the sector. Many hope that Argentina’s government, led by Javier Milei and his cost-cutting mandate, will give the country new momentum for market recovery.

Speaking to HLPFI in the January/February 2026 edition of the magazine, Peter Sjelle, regional manager east coast South America at BBC Chartering, said: “Following its [2023] change in government, Argentina is undergoing significant challenges – but with considerable potential if it manages to come out on top.
“We’ve already observed an uptick in the initiatives for imports, which could drive growth, though it’s still unclear how much this will translate into increased exports. The country appears to be on the right track after years of being overlooked due to strict regulations and high taxes.”
Indeed, investors are restarting their projects, and requirements for logistics engineering and feasibility studies have consequently increased.
The government in Argentina is also heavily promoting new investments in the mining sector (lithium, copper and critical minerals) but also in the oil and gas industry, with drilling/plant expansion and pipeline construction projects in the regions of Vaca Muerta and Bahia Blanca.
