Blue Water powers up plant

January 16 - Blue Water Singapore has handled the logistics for the Leichhardt power station in Mount Isa, Australia - a part of the larger Diamantina power station project, which is currently under construction.

The project required the close cooperation of Leighton Contractors (the builders of the plant), Rolls-Royce and Blue Water Singapore, which enabled all packages to be delivered and placed immediately on their foundations.

The local operations in Australia, including the 1,400 km heavy duty transport up to the site, were arranged and supervised through Blue Water's local experts from its office in Melbourne.

"Our work scope included the overall logistics of high value components from around the world for delivery deep into the heart of Queensland, Australia. This included a 104-tonne AC generator from Loughborough in the UK, as well as a 56-tonne Rolls-Royce gas turbine generator from Mount Vernon in Ohio, USA," said Sebastian Stephan Schilde, project manager for Blue Water Singapore.

"Our close cooperation with the project teams in Esbjerg, Houston and Shanghai was critical for delivering the cargo safely and ahead of schedule," he added.

The Leichhardt power station will deliver 60 MW of power and act as a backup to the 242 MW Diamantina power station - a USD570 million joint project constructed by AGL Energy and APA Group to deliver energy to the North West Queensland region.
