Boa said that the barges will be capable of handling the future requirements from any industry “with regards to heavy loads, large footprints and extreme submersing depths”.

Measuring 166 m x 73.4 m x 9.15 m, and with a submersing depth of 31.65 m (22.5 m of water above barge deck), the barge will be suitable for load-out/float-off operations; transport of vessels, platforms, rigs and heavy cargo; drydocking operations; salvage operations; decommissioning; as well as acting as a platform construction and installation.

The barges will have a deck strength of 35 tonnes per sq m and will feature four removable floatation towers.  Boa is targeting the selection of a shipyard within 2024, with the first barge in operation in 2026.
