Boluda Towage has acquired Boskalis’s towage business in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
The USD600 million transaction expands Boluda Towage’s presence to five continents, adding 39 tugs to its fleet. The ports of Weipa, Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone, Brisbane, Newcastle, Botany, Melbourne in Australia as well as Papua New Guinea now join Boluda’s network, strengthening its role in the export of essential commodities for the energy, technology, and steel industries worldwide.
Boluda said this integration not only enhances service capabilities but also allows it to consolidate its position in Asia – it already operates in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste. From this Australian base, the company said it can better connect local resource production with key consumer markets.
In May 2024, Boluda Towage agreed to acquire UK-based SMS Towage.
