October 21 - The Port of Antwerp handled 7.26 million tonnes of breakbulk cargo during the first nine months of 2016, just 0.5 percent down on the previous year's figures.

Ro-ro volumes were also down at the port, with 3.3 million tonnes handled in the reporting period - a 1.9 percent year-on-year decline. Container volumes grew by 3.7 percent year-on-year to 88.63 million tonnes.

The largest decline was recorded in the dry bulk market, with the port handling 9.2 million tonnes during the first nine months - an 11.6 percent drop when compared with the same period last year. 

Overall, however, the Port of Antwerp posted an "excellent performance" with a 3.3 percent rise in total cargo throughput compared with the first nine months of 2015.
