June 1 - Cargo Equipment Experts (CEE) members are busy with a pair of high and heavy projects on different continents.

German forwarder Kübler Spedition has transported the world's biggest friction winch to an industrial project in South Africa.

The Michelfeld-Erlin-based company won the contract to transport the largest friction winch ever constructed in Haiger, Germany. The winch, which weighs 150 tonnes, can simultaneously work with six ropes of 30 tonnes each at a working depth down to 2,000 m. The winch is destined to work at several plants for the Impala mining company in South Africa.

The heavy-duty transportation of the special winch in question began in Haiger, with the shipment travelling by road to Andernach, Germany. In Andernach, the winch was transferred onto a barge and taken to Antwerp in Belgium, where it began its journey to South Africa onboard a MACS multipurpose vessel, Red Cedar. At the port of Richards Bay, Kuebler's sub-contractor arranged for transport and loading onto a prepared foundation at the jobsite about 1,050 km from the port.

Meanwhile, fellow CEE member Barcelona-based Multitrade Spain has delivered the first A380 airport bridges to Rome's Fiumicino airport. Closely supervised by in-house surveyors at loading and off-loading, Multitrade Spain managed the delivery from Barcelona, Spain to Rome, Italy in only three days. #
