Construction at Cuxport

April 27 - The deepwater terminal of Cuxport, located in Cuxhaven, Germany is undergoing the construction of a fourth berth.

The EUR30 million (USD32.7 million) investment will extend the terminal by 85,000 sq m, and the fourth berth will measure 290 m long and comprise of an area of 8.5 hectares (21 acres).

Cuxport handles a range of cargoes including ro-ro, containers, vehicles, heavy loads and project cargoes, offshore wind energy equipment, and breakbulk cargoes, including forest and steel products. It is equipped for heavy cargo and will be operated as a multipurpose terminal by Cuxport.

The terminal will be utilised by geared vessels, and will have the capability to manoeuvre and position crawler cranes.

Speaking with HLPFI at the Breakbulk Europe 2017 conference and exhibition, Roland Schneider, head of business development at Cuxport, said that the terminal is currently operating at full capacity, and thus the extension will enable increased operations while enhancing its presence in the deepsea market.

The extension is due to be completed in spring 2018.
