The vessel was introduced at Marintec China 2025 on December 3. The newly released Polaris vessel integrates a hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion system with organic liquid hydrogen storage technology, which the designer said would address the key challenges of hydrogen storage density and limited voyage endurance.

Targeted at the European market, the ship would deliver full lifecycle net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

The vessel would have a length of 129.95 m, a 20 m beam and a draught of 12.8 m. Service speed is rated at 12.5 knots and maximum range is 4,300 nautical miles.

CSDC said that compared with conventional fuel-powered vessels of similar size, the design provides roughly 300 cu m of additional cargo hold capacity and an increased limit of 10 teu. It added that the vessel incorporates a suite of energy-saving features including a contra-rotating propeller, an energy-saving duct, and a low-wind-resistance bow superstructure – combining to reach up to 13 percent overall efficiency improvement.
