South Korea’s CY Shipping and Netherlands-based BigLift Shipping are expanding their joint fleet of heavy transport vessels (HTV) to a total of eight with the addition of two further BC-class vessels.
HLPFI reported in 2024 that CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping placed orders for two BC-class HTVs. This latest newbuilding contract has also been signed with Jing Jiang Nanyang Shipbuilding in China, with delivery scheduled for Q1 2028 and Q3 2028, respectively.
The newbuilds are 180 m in length with a beam of 43 m. The deck spans 43 m x 140 m, providing a fully unobstructed cargo area of 6,020 sq m. Cargoes can be loaded and discharged via stern or side using ro-ro or skidding methods. Each ship has a draught of 12 m, a deadweight capacity of 25,000 tonnes, and a ballast system capable of pumping 12,000 cu m per hour.
“The introduction of the BC-class vessels reflects our shared vision with BigLift Shipping: to set new benchmarks in heavy transport services. These vessels not only expand our operational reach but also reinforce our commitment to the market,” said James Jung, director at CY Shipping.
“With the four BC-class vessels, we’re not just adding capacity – we’re adding reliability, flexibility, redundancy and a unified standard of excellence,” commented Johan Boer, commercial director at BigLift Shipping.
