November 21 - Dutch high and heavy operator Wagenborg Nedlift has worked to move an out-of-gauge shipment from Germany to Finland in what it describes as a good example of "factory to foundation logistics."
Two stack sections of more than 7.5 m diameter, weighing respectively 135 tonnes and 56 tonnes, were transported from their fabrication shop in Flechum, Germany to the inland harbour of Meppen, Germany.
The final destination of the cargo was the new power plant in Olkiluoto, Finland.
After a full day of "very careful" road transport on German roads, the stacks were transshipped onto an inland water vessel destined for the port of Delfzijl, Netherlands, says the company. After arrival, two large cranes loaded the cargo on board the Wagenborg vessel, Cathy Jo.
After a five-day sailing, the stacks arrived at port of Olkiluoto, Finland where a crane was positioned for the offloading operation. The final part of the contract was to position the stacks on their foundation in the new power plant.
