December 23 - Ferus Smit shipyard has launched the multipurpose cargo vessel Reggeborg, which will be delivered to Wagenborg Shipping in February 2014.

The 23,300 dwt vessel has an overall length of 169.75 m, breadth of 20.2 m and draught of 9.718 m and is the second in a series of three multipurpose ships to be delivered to the Netherlands based shipping line by the shipyard.

It is the largest ship ever built by the Ferus Smit shipyard and will also be the largest vessel in the Wagenborg fleet.

Reggeborg is equipped with a main engine delivering 4,500 KW to a ducted propeller. It is also equipped with a higher deckhouse than the first vessel delivered, to create better vision lines when shipping high project cargoes on deck.

The vessel has been designed with fuel and environmental efficiency in mind. Her 'bulbless' bow and longer, sharper waterlines creates less drag, regardless of water draught and will improve performance in rough conditions. Reggeborg's negative stemprofile will prove advantageous when breaking through ice sheets, says Ferus Smit.

Moreover, this shape creates a higher overall deadweight and cargo volume within her absolute dimensions.
