January 6 - FKAB China has won a design order from ZPMC's shipping arm, for the conversion of a 15 year old aframax tanker into a semi-submersible heavy lift vessel.
After the conversion, the heavy lift vessel will be able to transport container cranes, offshore rigs, and other heavy cargoes, which can be loaded by ro-ro or flo-flo (float on, float off) mode.
The total cargo deck area - 170 m x 42 m - will be able to be submerged 9 m below the waterline.
FKAB China will be responsible for the conversion design, including concept design and basic and class drawings, before the conversion is carried out in a repairing shipyard in the Shanghai area.
