May 13 - The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has issued an alert to yacht purchasers that any company used to move vessels via ocean freight should be FMC licensed and bonded.

The FMC is an independent American federal agency that regulates ocean transportation. It has reported an increase in the number of complaints received relating to the international transport of yachts.

Southampton, UK based yacht transportation specialist Peters & May is registered with the FMC as an ocean freight forwarder (ITO) and non vessel operating common carrier (NCOCC); and its ceo David Holley commented:  "There are hundreds of shippers offering yacht transportation services but only a handful of specialist yacht and boat transporters.

"Being licensed by the FMC ensures that our clients can be confident that we are providing competitive rates, that our terms and conditions are clear and fair, and that we operate a policy of honesty."
