Geodis adds rail in China

June 27 - Geodis Wilson has expanded its Asia-Pacific operations to include domestic rail freight services in China, with intercontinental services between China and Europe planned for the future.

Rail freight transport is growing in China, and is considered a viable alternative to road haulage due to safety, efficiency and environmental advantages. According to Geodis Wilson, rail transport experiences strong social and political support in China and is therefore likely to grow further.
"In Geodis Wilson we follow closely the development of this segment, particularly when it involves intercontinental connections between China and Europe. We are targeting customers who are looking for an alternative to airfreight with a longer lead time," noted Kim Pedersen, executive vice president, Geodis Wilson.
As part of a rail, sea, air and road transportation solution, Geodis Wilson's new rail freight service will offer door-to-door services.
Geodis Wilson will also launch services for 20 ft and 40 ft FCL and breakbulk services from China to Central Asia, Mongolia, Russia and Europe. It already offers existing services to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
