Going Dutch is no problem for ALS

March 25 - ALS (Freight Management Nederland) BV's sea freight team based in Moerdijk, Netherlands arranged the loading of two transformers with a combined weight of 330 tonnes along with 950 cu m of ancillary equipment for movement between Croatia and th

The movement, between Rijeka in Croatia and Sutton Bridge in the UK was accomplished with the help of colleagues at Abnormal Load Services (International) Limited, Hull.

The Moerdijk team arranged the loading of the 7.77 m long x 3.93 m wide x 4.45 m high transformers onto the ship and organised the sea freight based on a part charter. The shipment necessitated the use of a gearless coaster with limited draught because of depth restrictions at the port of discharge.

For loading, a special heavy lift crane was arranged by ALS in Hull.

The transformers will be used in an electricity substation to manage incoming power generated by several new wind farms which are presently being built off the UK's east coast.
