March 3 - Sweden's Port of Gothenburg intends to build a new 60 ha energy port in the Risholmen area, with works scheduled to start in 2018.

The new energy park will comprise five new quays; it will be built using land dug up from numerous infrastructural projects carried out in Gothenburg and the surrounding area by the Swedish Transport Administration.

Arvid Guthed, vice president port development at the Port of Gothenburg explained that the region needs new terminals and quays in order to secure the future supply of energy, as well as to create space for new types of energy products.

The Port of Gothenburg anticipates the new facility to be commissioned by 2030.
