October 13 - Hegmann Transit moved five oversize units from the Ruhr to Leipzig/Halle Airport, Germany, so they could be loaded on the world's largest freighter aircraft, the Antonov AN-225.

A sensitive compressor skid with engine module was urgently required in Abu Dhabi, which determined the need for delivery by air.

The item was divided into 15 separate units. The five-unit consignment for the AN-225 measured 42 m long, 4.5 m wide, 4.5 m high and had combined weight of 152 tonnes

Upon delivery to the airport, a mobile crane with a 500 tonne lift capacity was used to load the out-of-gauge cargoes onto the aircraft, said Hegmann Transit, which is a member of the Big Move network of European heavy haulage and special transport providers.

Securing cargo inside the hold of the AN-225 follows its own special set of procedures - a seven-fold load securing system is mandatory, said Hegmann Transit. Each individual item required additional securing points corresponding to the lashing points in the Antonov's cargo compartment.

Hegmann also transported the remaining ten units of the compressor to Frankfurt Hahn Airport, which were loaded on a Boeing 747 freighter.
