February 19 - Grimaldi Lines has added a call at the Port of Houston to its East Coast - West Africa ro-ro service - the first direct service between the US gateway and the African region.

The service deploys a fleet of six multipurpose ro-ro vessels, which will call at the Port of Houston's Barbours Cut terminal every 11 days. The ships will be capable of transporting containers, automobiles and other rolling stock.

Grimaldi commented: "The Gulf region is an important market in the growing trade from the USA to West Africa. We are excited to be able to offer manufacturers, traders and the oil and gas sector a regular direct container service from Houston to a wide range of ports on the West African coast."

The shipping line added that the service will offer calls at 15 West African ports.
