January 7 - The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) will hold its Specialized Transport Symposium during March 19-21, 2014 in Houston, Texas.

More than 400 specialised carriers, state and federal government officials, researchers, manufacturers and suppliers are expected to attend the three-day event.

The symposium will begin with a session from companies based in the US, Mexico and Canada, and the obstacles encountered when moving heavy and over-dimensional cargoes internationally, and intermodal movements through ports.

Further sessions will discuss: one-stop-shop permitting; state-to-state harmonisation of regulations; the current trucking workforce and the next generation of hauliers; compliance, safety and accountability (CSA) to reduce permit violations and fines; a hands-on demonstration of how authorities conduct roadside inspections of oversize loads; how technological tools such as in-cab recorders become more sophisticated and important in the business environment; risk management; and changes to federal regulatory initiatives.

The final session will recap the 2013 winning entries from the SC&RA Hauling Jobs of the Year Competition, including the transportation of the Space Shuttle Endeavour through the streets of downtown Los Angeles by Sarens; and the delivery of the two largest loads ever transported over public highways in the United States by Burkhalter.
