Scotland’s Kishorn Port has secured an investment of up to GBP24 million (USD32.61 million) from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).
The investment will go towards Kishorn Port’s GBP42.2 million (USD57.35 million) phase 1a expansion project, which includes the expansion of its dry dock as well as land reclamation. This will allow for the manufacture of floating offshore wind foundations.
Kishorn is well-equipped for the manufacturing of concrete floating offshore wind sub-structures thanks to its quarry on-site. Local content, laydown, marshalling, and integration and assembly are part of the wider project at Kishorn, with the development attracting early interest from floating offshore wind and decommissioning projects.
The chief contractor for the project is RJ McLeod, with supporting services being provided in the form of marine consulting civil engineers, environmental consultants, and project management consultants.
Last month, HLPFI reported that Peel Ports Clydeport – also in Scotland – had boosted its wind turbine handling thanks to investment.
