March 2 - Since placing an initial order for five Kobelco CKE2500-2, 250-tonne capacity crawler cranes (for operations in Brazil, Sakhalin and the Middle East) in 2010, leading international heavy lift specialist, Mammoet, has progressively increased its
That gives a total order for 29 new Kobelco cranes in the past year, for a number of projects in places as far apart as Russia, South America, the Middle East, Europe and Australia. The order includes seven CKE2500-2s for Western Australia, and three 'fully loaded' CKE2500-2s for the Netherlands, with tilt cab, 64 m crane boom, 91 m long boom, 61 m luffing tower boom and 61 m luffing jib. The machines for the Netherlands will be used on a variety of high profile industrial, petrochemical and maritime projects including the Tata steel works, a new hospital in Utrecht, and in Mammoet's own Port Terminal in Terneuzen.
Commenting on this significant level of orders for the popular Kobelco 250 tonne model, Jan van Seumeren Jr, chief technical officer of Mammoet said, "The reliability and capacity in the 250 tonne class were the key factors for Mammoet in deciding to buy another 23 units of the CKE2500-2 for our worldwide operations."
The seven units for Australia are destined for the massive Gorgon offshore LNG Project in Western Australia, where they will be used for the construction of the main processing plant and the associated pipework and distribution infrastructure. The first five of the new Kobelcos have arrived and been commissioned on the Australian mainland near Barrow Island where site preparation work has already begun.
The Gorgon project, led by the main joint-venture partners Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell, is being developed on strict environmentally sensitive and nature conservation lines, including the use of new carbon dioxide injection technology.
