November 13 - Mammoet has been awarded a contract by Sasol for its new ethane cracker and derivatives complex.

Sasol's new facility, which will be built adjacent to its existing site near Westlake, Louisiana, is one of the largest projects on the US Gulf Coast.

The new ethane cracker will have an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes of ethylene feeding six chemical manufacturing plants. The facility is scheduled for commissioning in 2018.

The contract is comprised of all the heavy lift and transport engineering, receiving modules and oversized equipment from domestic and overseas yards, transporting the cargo to site and all major lift work.

Jacques Stoof, vice president of sales and marketing at Mammoet, said: "We feel fortunate to have been entrusted to assist Sasol with the heavy lifting and transport requirements for this project and we look forward to working with them to find ways to optimize their heavy lift and transport engineering requirements."
