February 28 - Mojo Maritime has agreed a deal with German shipowner and manager, Hammonia Reederei GmbH & Co. KG to develop an brand new class of offshore construction vessels - the HF4.

The vessel has the potential to revolutionise the tidal energy sector, claim the two companies. It is designed to reduce the weather delays and risks in operating in tide races, thus reducing current installation costs by up to 80 percent, they add.

The 1,250 dwt vessel will be equipped with a 250-tonne capacity A-frame for heavy lift operations and a dynamic positioning system enabling it to operate safely in currents up to 10 knots.

The vessel will also be able to effectively serve other offshore construction markets including offshore wind, cable laying and trenching, as well as subsea oil and gas interventions, says Mojo Maritime.

Mojo provides specialist offshore engineering and operations expertise, to complement Hammonia's ship management and project development skills.
