May 8 - The official launch of the new Nor Lines ro-ro service between Cuxhaven and Norway has taken place with the first departure of the newbuild ro-ro vessel Kvitbj

The LNG-powered Kvitbjørn left the Cuxport terminal - which is a joint venture between Rhenus and Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA) - carrying a cargo of cable drums.

HLPFI reported on March 2 that Nor Lines was deploying two new ro-ro vessels - Kvitbjørn and Kvitnos - on a weekly service between Cuxport and a large number of Norwegian ports, such as Bergen, Alesund, Trondheim and Hammerfest.

"The favourable location of the Cuxport terminal and its logistics expertise, particularly in the ro-ro sector, played a major role in out choice of port," said Sigurd Ur, director of sales and marketing at Nor Lines.

Heavy goods loaded using Mafi trailers and consumer products loaded in 45 ft containers are the main focus of handling activities for the new service, said Cuxport.

"With our multi-purpose approach, we're ideally equipped to cope with a wide variety of types of cargo and goods entrusted to us by our customers," added Michael de Reese, managing director of Cuxport.
