The Oregon Department of Transport (ODOT) has launched a web-based over-dimensional permitting system in cooperation with ProMiles Software Development Corporation.
Oregon Routing Information Online (ORION) replaces the existing system and provides a modernised, web-based, self-issuing permitting system that enables immediate access 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
According to ProMiles, the system improves turnaround the time for route and oversized/overweight (OS/OW) loads with permits issued within minutes of submission; offers truckers the most efficient and safest route, with acknowledgment of known road and bridge restrictions and closures; and provides automated routing for trip planning and single trip permits.
ProMiles added that it will also improve ODOT’s ability to meet dynamic challenges while allowing staff to focus on complex permitting demands, whilst also enhancing customer communication by providing immediate restriction notifications that may impact an active permit.
With the roll-out of ORION, Oregan is now the 21st state to use ProMiles for their permitting system. The company estimates that around 55 percent of all OS/OW permits issued in the USA are processed using ProMiles’ custom permitting software. More states are expected to implement ProMiles software later this year and in 2026.
