May 9 - Eastern Canada's Port Saint John has seen cargo tonnage gains across all of its sectors during April 2013.

Overall tonnage at the gateway grew 7 percent year-on-year in April 2013 to 10.12 million tonnes. Dry bulk at the gateway surged 111 percent to 481,617 tonnes; liquid bulk traffic increased by 4 percent to 9.452 million tonnes.

Container traffic rose from 16,023 teu in April 2012 to 24,190 teu in April 2013 - a 51 percent year-on-year improvement.

In 2012, the Canadian gateway handled over 30 million tonnes cargo, including dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk, containers and cruise cargoes.
