January 22 - Breakbulk cargo volumes at Sohar Port and Freezone rose 46 percent in 2015 compared with the previous year.

Ro-ro cargo at the Omani port saw one of the biggest rises as figures increased by 90 percent year-on-year, with over 230,000 vehicles handled in 2015.

Overall cargo volumes were up 12 percent at over 50 million tonnes.

Sohar ceo Andre Toet said: "An average cargo throughput of close to a million tonnes a week in 2015, is testament to the success of our operations at Sohar. Our rapid growth further strengthens our position as the new gateway to the Gulf region and our continued development as a very significant regional logistics hub."
