RHA launches abnormal loads forum

November 17 - As a direct result of a meeting between its abnormal loads liaison group, the UK's Road Haulage Association (RHA) has established an abnormal loads cross industry forum and working group to address concerns affecting the industry.

The RHA explained that it became clear at a meeting between the haulage industry and other key stakeholders in April there were many issues affecting the abnormal load industry.

In an effort to address these concerns and improve the efficiency of the industry's contribution to the UK economy, the forum has been established to "develop an industry code of practice to benefit the whole of the distribution network and its players", said the UK body.

According to the RHA, the plan is to consider all aspects of the heavy transport business - including the movement notification procedures, the response of police and structure owners, compliance, enforcement and other factors - in order to develop and influence the review, with the intention of bringing about long-awaited improvements.

Ray Engley of the RHA has agreed to act as coordinator with the support of the Heavy Transport Association (HTA), the Freight Transport Association (FTA) and other interested groups.
