March 3 - Schmidbauer Group has been awarded a contract to handle the heavy load logistics for the Walney Extension Wind Farm, in the UK.
Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects awarded Schmidbauer the contract       to unload, store and transport the transition pieces, weighing up       to 600 tonnes, and monopiles, weighing up to 1,030 tonnes, at the       feeder harbour in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where, the parts of       87 wind turbines are stored.
 
 According to Schmidbauer, it will primarily use its 1,350-tonne       capacity Liebherr LR 11350 and the 350-tonne capacity LR1350       crawler cranes. 56 self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) axles       are on site to move the monopiles, which are 80 m in length and       have a diameter of 8.4 m.
 
 The Walney Extension Wind Farm is expected to be operational in       2018.
