DEME Group’s jack-up installation vessel Sea Installer has arrived at the port of Salem in Massachusetts ahead of its installation campaign for the 800 MW Vineyard Wind project.

Equipped with a new 1,600-tonne crane, Sea Installer will install the GE Haliade-X turbines for the project. It joins DEME Group’s offshore installation vessel Orion, which is installing the foundations, at the project site.

The vessel, which is too large to pass through the hurricane barrier in New Bedford, is docked at the future site of the Salem Wind Services Terminal, which US maritime and logistics company Crowley plans to begin constructing later this year at the site of a decommissioned coal-fired energy plant. The terminal will serve as a hub for construction, maintenance and other services to develop and sustain offshore wind installations.
