March 13 - Amsterdam-based shipping company Spliethoff has placed an order for six multipurpose vessels at the Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding shipyard in China.

The 165 m long vessels have a hold length of over 100 m and have a deadweight of approximately 18,000 tons (16,329.32 tonnes). The vessels feature three onboard cranes, which can be combined for heavy lifts.

With accommodation at the bow, the vessels are very suitable for holding cargo of considerable size and length, claims the shipping line.

According to Spliethoff, the R-Class vessels are designed in accordance with the Polar Code and suited to trading in remote areas such as the Arctic.

The first vessel of the series, named Raamgracht, is scheduled to be delivered in January 2019, followed, in regular intervals of two months, by the other five vessels: Realengracht, Reguliersgracht, Rijpgracht, Ringgracht and Rozengracht.
