Wind energy is focus for Esbjerg extension

June 24 - Denmark's Port of Esbjerg has opened its brand new 650,000 sq m

Mayor of Esbjerg, Johnny Søtrup and the Danish Minister of Transport, Henrik Dam Kristense attended the opening ceremony, which took place last Friday.

The harbour, which covers approximately the same area as 100 football pitches, has taken over two years to build, at a cost of EUR100 million (USD131.3 million).

According to Port of Esbjerg, representatives from the wind energy industry will be the first to move into the new area, which features facilities tailored for testing, pre-assembly and shipping of offshore turbines. Østhavn can also accommodate the needs of ro-ro, container and oil and gas customers.
