DB Schenker wins

January 6 - DB Schenker is the latest logistics company to win benefitial business from Australia's massive Gorgon project, the major gas production development.

Kellogg Joint Venture, a consortium under contract to Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell, has awarded the global forwarder a contract to provide worldwide and national transport for the project.

"The project has a total investment volume of EUR 25 billion (USD 36 billion), making it the biggest gas production undertaking in Australia and currently one of the largest in the world," stated DB Schenker. "According to estimates, the Gorgon field, which is located off the north-west coast of Australia, holds 40 trillion cu m of gas. Plans call for a gas liquefaction plant to be built on Barrow Island to utilise the gas."

Under the four-year EUR 350 million (USD 502 million) contract, DB Schenker would provide integrated logistical services to transport more than two million freight tonnes to module production plants in Asia and/or directly to Australia.

DB Schenker, part of German multinational rail and logistics group Deutsche Bahn, said initial work on the project would begin shortly on Barrow Island. "Plans call for the first gas to be produced in 2014," it added.
