July 24 - The Port of Everett, USA received a USD1.5 million grant from the Washington State to complete the second phase of its ro-ro cargo facility.

When finished, the development will allow the port to handle the world's largest ro-ro vessels.

According to the Port of Everett, ro-ro capabilities are critical to meeting the shipping needs of the local aerospace industry and nearby military installations.

Washington governor Jay Inslee recently rolled out a strategy to ensure the B777X aircraft is manufactured in the State, and part of his plan was to improve the infrastructure at the gateway: "Invest in the Port of Everett roll-on roll-off cargo berth. This will boost efficiency and add capacity at the main point of entry for airplane parts manufactured in Asia, and help ensure the 777X and future Boeing airplane programs are built in Washington."

The port is also rebuilding a railway spur on the terminal with help of a state rail bank loan.

"Our ability to support the aerospace logistics chain will be greatly enhanced with state funding for this project," said Port of Everett executive director John Mohr.
