Italy’s Gradito Oleodinamica is using a configuration of MSPE modules from Cometto to move tunnel boring machinery (TBM) as part of the Palermo–Catania high-speed railway project.
Last spring, Cometto delivered the SPMT configuration to the Sicilian company. The package comprised an MSPE six-axle module, an MSPE four-axle module and a 202 kW power pack unit (PPU).
Gradito Oleodinamica’s work on the Palermo–Catania high-speed railway project is the equipment’s first assignment, handling a 148-tonne TBM head that will be used for the Caltanissetta Xirbi – Nuova Enna section of the railway line.
“This is exactly the kind of challenge the MSPE system, with its advantages in terms of electronic steering and payload capacity, was made for: high precision, massive loads, and rough terrain,” said Cometto.
In May 2025, HLPFI reported that Cometto has integrated a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) into its self-propelled vehicles.
