February 18 - Luxembourg B747 freighter operator Cargolux is to add Port Harcourt in Nigeria as a new destination to its African network from March 5, 2013.

Port Harcourt serves a strong oil and gas industry in the region that increasingly demands more direct flights for its equipment and support-related items.

Flying heavy and outsized goods for these industries on its nose-door equipped freighters is a Cargolux specialty and customers have long relied on the company's expertise in this field, said a statement from the carrier.

In addition to its heavy freight business, Cargolux will carry a range of consumer goods for the local consumer market in the Port Harcourt region.

Cargolux said it is viewing further expansion in Africa and expects new services to additional destinations on the continent during 2013.
