China eyes logistics industry development

August 23 - China's Ministry of Transport has issued a guideline to promote “the intensified, intelligent and standardised development of the logistics industry” and make efforts to reduce costs and enhance efficiency in the sector.

The guideline - which is intended to "inject new vitality" into the Chinese economy - stated that the country's transportation and logistics services system would be completed by 2020, supporting the construction of 150 transportation hubs and 3,000 km of railway and highway lines connecting with key ports.

In addition, the country plans to expand and modify roads that suffer from heavy traffic, and improve conditions for logistics facilities in cross-region channels. It also pledged to improve services at transport hubs, as well as support the construction of logistics parks and infrastructure improvements at key ports.

The transport ministry also plans to improve the industry's application of advanced information technology in China.

Also discussed in the guideline was the development of multimodal transport within the Asian nation, the improvement of rural logistics services and the development of integration within regional transportation and logistics.
