City Union's final push to Kentucky

July 25 - City Union Logistics, on behalf of its client Otto Junker, transported a pushing furnace from a factory in Changshu, China to the project site in Kentucky, USA.

The furnace, which measured 33 m x 12 m x 3 m and had a total weight of 662 tons (600.5 tonnes), was dissassembled into 154 components as it was not possible to transport the module in one piece.

Based on the different features of the smaller consignments, City Union adopted three different transport solutions.

The small furnace parts were loaded in 33, 40 ft containers and shipped to Los Angeles. From Los Angeles, the consignments were transported by truck to a container yard in Nashville, before final delivery to the terminal.

The 24 medium-sized furnace parts were loaded on 11, 40 ft flatracks. According to City Union, the Port of Savannah was chosen for these consignments due to the dimensions of the cargoes. After the cargo was unloaded at the port, the flatracks were trucked to the job site.

The remaining eight furnace components could not be disassembled and were transported as bulk cargoes onboard a container vessel. Six of the components measured 12.4 m x 4.1 m x 3.6 m and weighed 32 tons (29 tonnes), while two measured 12.4 m x 5.2 m x 3.6 m and weighed 41 tons (37.2 tonnes).

City Union Logistics is a member of the XLProjects (XLP) network in China.
