April 10 - Crane Rental Corporation has transported a 163-tonne transformer over a distance of 80 km through Florida on a 24-axle dual-lane Trail King Trailer.

The trailer used was made in 2013 to meet Crane Rental's specifications, and features telescoping axles that extend from 3.6 m to 6.1 m to accommodate over-dimensional loads and evenly distribute loads over bridges and culverts.

A T800 Kenworth four-axle tractor with an automatic transmission engine and 31.75-tonne planetary rear axles pulled the entire load, which was accompanied by six police and two civilian escorts.

The transformer was loaded onto the 24-axle dual-lane trailer using Crane Rental's 700-tonne gantry cranes and when it arrived at the final site, it was transferred from the Trail King trailer to the company's 12-line Goldhofer self-propelled modular hydraulic platform trailer using the same cranes.

The cargo was moved through the tight plant site on the Goldhofer trailer, before being positioned in the substation and offloaded into its final resting position using the same 700-tonne gantries once again.
