Escalators fly with Volga-Dnepr

February 19 - Volga-Dnepr Airlines has delivered lifts and escalators to be used in the modernisation of the National Belarus Airport from Shanghai to Minsk, Belarus.

The consigment, which was operated under the Ruslan International joint venture, included eight lifts and four escalators, weighing a total of 85 tonnes and was carried on board one of Volga-Dnepr's AN-124-100 freighter aircraft.

The larger pieces of cargo were loaded using the freighter's onboard cranes, while the smaller shipments were placed into the cargo hold using automated loaders.

The lifts and escalators, which were produced by the Chinese company Otis Elevator Company, are part of a new reconstruction and improvement programme for the Belarussian airport, which began earlier this year.
