OHT wins Hywind contract

September 5 - Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT) has been awarded a transportation services contract by Technip for the 30 MW Hywind offshore wind farm in Scotland.

OHT's scope of work includes preparation of the transportation manual including design, procurement and installation of grillage/sea fastenings and supports, as well as stability and ballasting procedures. It will also execute the turnkey transportation of five substructures from Spain to Norway.
OHT's semi-submersible heavy lift vessel Eagle will alternate between carrying one or two foundations per voyage, with the first scheduled for the first half of 2017. OHT's engineering and operations departments in Oslo will perform all planning and engineering in cooperation with Technip in Norway.

Torgeir Ramstad, ceo of OHT, says that this marks the company's first entry into the offshore wind business, a market he believes has enormous needs for logistics and transportation services."

The floating wind farm will be located 30 km off the coast of Aberdeenshire, northeast Scotland. It will consist of five, 6 MW Siemens turbines anchored in waters exceeding 100 m in depth. Technip in Norway was awarded the Hywind marine operations contract from Statoil in 2016.
