Rotterdam plans offshore centre

June 2 - The Port of Rotterdam is to create space for an offshore centre to service offshore wind energy projects, oil and gas decommissioning activity in the North Sea, as well as ongoing activities in the oil and gas sector.

The development will be situated in the Prinses Alexiahaven on Maasvlakte 2 at which the port authority expects the first tenants to start operations in two years time.

All activities will be related to construction, assembly, logistics and heavy lift for offshore wind, decommissioning and the oil & gas markets.

The development will strengthen and further improve the port's existing and diversified offshore cluster.

The port authority says that the development of the facility will allow companies to cluster their activities and benefit from each other's proximity.

When fully developed, the centre will be 70 ha in area and include 1,600 m of quays purpose built for logistics related to offshore activities.
