April 8 - Saudi Airlines Cargo (Saudia Cargo) has upgraded its Shanghai service to operate three weekly B747-8 freighter flights from Shanghai to Europe and KSA.

"We are very excited to be able to operate our B747-8F aircraft in the Shanghai market after obtaining the required permits," said Peter Scholten, vice president commercial at Saudia Cargo.

"This is the beginning of our further expansion into the greater Chinese market, where we already operate two weekly B747-400Fs in Guangzhou and eight weekly B747s in Hong Kong," Scholten added.

The move follows growing demand for greater capacity coming out of China, and is expected to fulfil current market requirements, said Saudia Cargo.

Vikram Vohra, regional director for the Far East, also commented on the reason for the upgrade: "We had previously made a commitment to our clients in China that we would soon offer them additional capacity and shorter transit times to KSA and onwards to our network flights."
