Everett plans to strengthen wharf

December 5 - Starting this month, IMCO General Construction will begin work on a USD2.55 million upgrade at the Port of Everett's South Terminal, strengthening the wharf in order to support heavier ro-ro cargo operations.

This major investment will strengthen 140 ft (42.6 m) of the 700 ft (213 m) dock to create a heavy lift pad in the northwest corner of the wharf. Work is expected to be complete by May 2015.

The Port of Everett says that upgrading the South Terminal is vital for its ability to support the machinery, heavy equipment and other breakbulk cargoes that are regularly imported and exported through the international terminal.

Along with the port's investment to construct a ro-ro cargo berth at the terminal in 2013, the strengthened wharf will have an immediate impact on the port's ability to more efficiently load and unload cargo from ro-ro vessels.

"Moving high-value, heavy cargoes is what we do," said Les Reardanz, executive director and ceo of the Port of Everett. "It is critical that we continue to make necessary capital investments in our seaport."
