September 28 - Gefco has signed an agreement with the private equity fund Nimbus to acquire Dutch logistics company IJS Global.

IJS Global, which is headquartered in Amsterdam, specialises in air and sea freight operations, and operates across a number of business sectors, including oil and gas, humanitarian relief, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, high-tech and fashion.

Gefco explained that this acquisition will allow it to develop the company's presence in two of the world's largest freight forwarding markets: China and Southeast Asia, and the USA.

"The acquisition of IJS Global is fully in line with our development strategy. This operation will allow Gefco to enhance its position as the preferred partner of international industrial companies," said chairman of Gefco's management board Luc Nadal.

Once the acquisition of IJS Global is completed, all of Gefco's overseas freight forwarding activities will be managed by the current IJS Global ceo Sjoerd Van Loon.

The deal will become effective after completion of the usual regulatory formalities.
