December 2 - APS Stevedoring LLC, a new stevedoring company headquartered in Long Beach, USA, has began operations at the Port of Richmond.

Whilst current customers are mainly car manufacturers, the company says it plans to expand throughout the US West Coast as opportunities present themselves and will be branching out into general and break bulk cargoes, including over-dimensional and heavy project cargoes in the future.

APS has appointed John Gibson as its manager for the Richmond operations.

Commenting on the APS' services, APS president John Hering , who has more than 23 years experience working for stevedoring companies such as Ports America , said: "We see great opportunity with the synergy of all aspects of the logistics chain, including stevedoring, terminal handling and auto processing."

Executive director Port of Richmond Jim Matzorkis said of the new operator: "The Port of Richmond is pleased that APS Stevedoring has chosen the Port of Richmond as its initial port for stevedoring operations."
