September 15 - Citing the challenging offshore market conditions and reductions in projects worldwide, SAL Heavy Lift has announced the closure of its offshore business unit, SAL Offshore.

The poor market conditions have made it difficult for SAL Offshore to obtain "a sustainable profitable foothold in the market," explained Toshio Yamazaki, ceo.

The shipping company will continue to offer offshore installation services with its DP2 vessel Lone, as well as utilising other vessels in its fleet. SAL's marine projects team, based at the company's headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, will handle the offshore activities.

The decision by SAL Heavy Lift, as owner and shareholder of SAL Offshore, to change its strategy and approach to offshore activities has resulted in the closure of the SAL office in Delft, the Netherlands.

An office focusing on shipping activities will be established in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and will be run by Matthieu Moerman, Erikter Horst and Michiel Rijckaert, all of whom are already SAL representatives in the Benelux region.
