February 21 - Construction is underway at the DanTysk offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
Stockholm, Sweden headquartered energy company Vattenfall, in cooperation with Germany's Stadtwerke München, will invest close to EUR1 billion (USD1.32 billion) in the 288MW offshore wind farm that, when completed, will supply 400,000 German homes with renewable energy.
The crane ship Seafox 5 embarked on its maiden voyage with four 65 m monopiles. The 151 m vessel will be used to install all 80 monopiles at the DanTysk offshore site. Seafox 5's onboard crane is capable of lifting up to 1,200 tonnes.
Holger Grubel, project director of the DanTysk wind farm commented: "We are hoping for good weather and expect to see all 80 foundations and transition pieces in place by August.
"Installation of the wind turbines will begin this summer," Grubel added.
DanTysk offshore wind farm is located 70 km west of Sylt, on the border between the German and Danish economic zones. The wind farm is expected to be fully operational during 2014.
