ALE takes ride with Scheuerle

September 15 - ALE has transported a 1,293-tonne petrochemical module for the Malika oilfield offshore Malaysia using 60 axle lines of Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT).

The living quarters module, which measured 42 m long and around 30 m wide, was fabricated at the Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE) construction yard - around 2 km from its harbour destination.

Prior to the move, a route survey was undertaken by ALE to identify the most suitable route. The chosen route included six 90-degree turns, as well as several bridges and crossings.

The module was first jacked up, so that the 60 lines of SPMT could be driven under the load, while four girders were used to spread the weight of the load and make the centre of gravity higher.

On arrival at its destination, the living quarters module was lifted and installed on top of the final platform rig using two 1,600-tonne capacity crawler cranes.

HLPFI reported on September 14 that ALE has now completed the jack-up and skidding of the 13,800-tonne topside onto its hull for the Malikai project.

The TII Group - which comprises the Scheuerle, Nicolas and Kamag brands - also recently presented Nicolas' Euroflex product range, which includes lightweight and cost-effective vehicles for the transport of loads weighing up to 100 tonnes.

The Nicolas Euroflex is available with three to seven axles and has an optimised tare weight, wide excavator recess and sliding extension supports that allow the loading area to be easily adapted to suit different loads.
